That's like saying you bought a Z solely because of reliability. If you want flexibility, then get a got-damn film camera and a good scanner; that'll run circles around a digicam. I hate to say, but the image quality of the floppy Sony Mavicas aren't up to par w/ the other camera manufacturers, including Nikon, Canon, Olympus, or even Kodak. Read'em and weep'em here, here, here, and here. And don't even say the Mavica has good image quality. A 1600x1200 pic would have to have pretty heavy compression. I would barely be able to fit one "fine" mode image (1:4 jpeg compression) taken w/ my Nikon Coolpix 800 on a 1.44MB floppy disk. Does the Mavica have a raw image compression mode? My raw images are about 5MB each. Fit that on a floppy. Special software on my computer? Hah! I just put my CF in a PC Card adapter and put it in my laptop. It looks like a 32MB HD to Win2000. Need more space? IBM 340 MicroDrive. Need even more? IBM 1GB MicroDrive. Now, does that sound too unflexible? I can use my 32MB CF for the digicam or laptop w/o having to worry about the space limitations of a 1.44 floppy. Have fun carrying bulky boxes of floppies around. Michael.
